From Concept to Publication : Intensive Class Systematic Literature Review September Batch

We are excited to announce the successful conclusion of “Meeting 1 of the Intensive Class: Writing a Systematic Literature Review & Publishing in International Journals, September Batch,” held on September 5, 2024. The session began with a warm introduction from Dr. Hendrati Dwi Mulyaningsih, who established an inspiring and engaging atmosphere for all participants. After her welcoming remarks, the meeting shifted focus to an overview of Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR) and the essential components that make up an effective SLR.

Setyowati Triastuti Utami, Ph.D., from Gadjah Mada University, conducted a session on formulating research questions and objectives. The focus of this session was on the significance of defining clear research objectives, which are essential for guiding any research project. Dr. Triastuti highlighted how precise objectives can enhance the clarity and direction of a study. To help participants apply these concepts, she led an interactive exercise on selecting and formulating research objectives. This hands-on approach encouraged collaboration and allowed attendees to practice crafting objectives that align with their research aims, ultimately equipping them with valuable tools for their academic pursuits.

During the second meeting on September 12, 2024, the focus was on Search Strategies for conducting systematic literature reviews (SLR). The session covered effective search strategies and explored various databases and search engines commonly used for literature searches. Participants learned how to build effective search strings, including the construction of search strings using keywords, Boolean operators, and truncation techniques. Additionally, the discussion included methods for refining search strategies to yield relevant results, equipping attendees with essential skills for navigating the vast landscape of academic literature effectively.

At the third meeting on September 19, 2024, the focus was on the Study Selection Process. This session provided an overview of the importance of establishing rigorous study selection criteria, along with an introduction to the screening and selection of studies, including inclusion and exclusion criteria. Additionally, participants learned about the data extraction process, focusing on the flow of data extraction from the selected studies that formed the sample. Guidance was also provided on developing effective data extraction forms and ensuring consistency throughout the data extraction process, equipping attendees with the necessary tools to systematically analyze their selected literature.

The fourth meeting of the Intensive Class on Systematic Literature Review took place on September 26, 2024. During this session, participants engaged in in-depth discussions about the critical stages of conducting systematic reviews, including the formulation of research questions, comprehensive literature search strategies, and effective data extraction techniques. 

At the conclusion of each meeting, participants receive homework assignments to reinforce the material covered. This approach ensures that by the end of the intensive class, attendees will be well-prepared to submit their final papers. The assignments are designed to encourage practice and application of the concepts taught, helping participants solidify their understanding and enhance their research skills.

Developing Excellent Research Proposal Workshop 2024: Empowering Future Researchers

In a collaborative effort between the Research Synergy Foundation and FKIP Universitas Mulawarman, the Developing Excellent Research Proposal Workshop 2024 was held at the Swiss Belhotel Balikpapan on the 17th and 18th of February 2024. This workshop aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to develop high-quality research proposals.

Day One: 17th February 2024

The first day of the workshop commenced with an introduction to research issues and problems, setting the stage for the participants to understand the importance of identifying and formulating research problems. This was followed by an individual exercise where participants identified research issues and problems relevant to their field of study.

Dr. Rasmitadila led the session on formulating research objectives, emphasizing the importance of clear and achievable objectives in research proposals. Participants then engaged in an individual exercise to formulate their research objectives.

The afternoon session focused on developing a conceptual framework in education research, highlighting its significance in guiding the research process. An individual exercise allowed participants to apply the concepts learned by developing their conceptual framework.

The day concluded with a session on research proposal writing with AI ethically, where Dr. Rasmitadila demonstrated how artificial intelligence can be used ethically to enhance research proposal writing. Participants then had the opportunity to practice writing their research proposals with AI assistance.

Day Two: 18th February 2024

The second day of the workshop delved into the various types of research methodologies, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of how to align their chosen methodology with their research objectives and questions. An individual exercise followed, where participants defined the research methodology in their proposals.

The session on data collection, data analysis, and interpretation focused on both quantitative and qualitative research methods, offering insights into best practices for collecting and analyzing data. Participants engaged in an exercise to apply these methods to their research proposals.

Ethical considerations in education research were discussed, highlighting the importance of conducting research ethically and responsibly. Participants then worked on writing their research proposals in PowerPoint, covering chapters 1-3.

The workshop concluded with individual presentations of participants’ research proposals, followed by feedback from Dr. Hendrati Dwi Mulyaningsih. This provided participants with valuable insights and suggestions for improving their proposals.
